about

Instrumentation: alto saxophone (JB), euphonium (Dustin Pitzer), bass clarinet (William Thomas). Originally performed by JB, Wes Evans, and Celia Taylor at the Virginia Beach City Schools Solo and Ensemble Festival in the spring of 1999 (8th grade). This was the first trio I had written that really worked for me. It is an exploration into the limits of trio writing in terms of harmony and counterpoint. Based on two frequently interwoven themes, the composition gives each trio part and equal role in the music.
